What is a sales forecast?

A sales forecast is an estimation of sales revenue within a certain timeframe . A typical sales forecast is dependent on your sales funnel. The funnel consists of stages, opportunity values, probabilities of closing the deal, close dates, weighted forecasts and so on.

Why do I need a sales forecast?

When you visualize your sales forecast in this template, you can use your projections to adjust your current sales process, allocate resources, and set targets. While tracking your sales forecast, you can implement strategies and tools to better qualify your leads and improve each phase of your sales process.

How do I use the sales funnel to forecast sales?

This template, built by a team of sales experts, lays out a standard sales funnel to forecast your revenue for you.

But everyone’s sales process and thus the forecast is different. That’s why you can add/remove custom stages in the ‘Settings & Instructions’ sheet. There you can add/remove team members, set targets, set probabilities, set close dates and set a custom # of days after which you’ll be reminded to follow up with a lead.

  • Add your sales leads to the ‘Sales Funnel’ sheet, select the stage they’re in, add size of the deal, set the probability of closing the deal, and the creation and expected close date. You can also add other data like the sales rep working on the deal, the next step etc.

  • Feel free to add/remove columns from the 'Sales Funnel' sheet.

  • Based on the data you input in the ‘Sales Funnel’ and ‘Settings & Instructions’ sheet, the ‘Sales Forecast’ sheet is updated automatically. This forecasts your revenue, tells you how well your sales reps are doing, what your conversion rates are, your revenue during certain time frame and more.
